The Lobster Shack at Two Lights

I try to get up to Portland at least a couple times each year. Since I have become quite familiar with downtown Portland, Cape Elizabeth and other areas, on this most recent trip I was eager to see what else there was to discover. In my research, I came across across Two Lights State Park, located on the southern tip of Cape Elizabeth.

After bakery hopping, we headed to the park, which is a 15 minute drive south of South Portland. The drive took us down narrow winding roads through quieter residential areas. Once you arrive at the park, it is just a short walk to the water’s edge, where there are what seems like miles and miles of rocky shoreline with stunning ocean views. The park also has some wooden trails.

Though I may not partake of certain regional specialties (read: seafood), I do like to ensure that my traveling and dining companions do and I am happy to live vicariously through them. Several of the reviews and websites I read raved about the lobster rolls at The Lobster Shack at Two Lights, just down the road from the park.

The restaurant has picnic benches outside so you can take in the ocean views, but it was chilly on this particular afternoon. We got a lobster roll and took a seat inside the Lobster Shack’s dining room, which is adorned with fishing paraphernalia. The lobster roll was excellent, with huge chunks of fresh lobster meat. The mayonnaise was a tad excessive, but since it was all on top of the lobster roll, not mixed in, it was easy to remove some.

In Portland alone there are dozens of places to get a quality lobster roll, but none that I have come across so far has views that compare to those you get at Two Lights. Go for the setting, go for the the lobster, whatever your reason, if you’re looking for a short excursion in Portland, Two Lights State Park is delightful.

I am really craving a lobster roll now! (although that mayo does look a bit excessive.) The park looks gorgeous, what a fun excursion.

Adam Richman, host of Man vs. Food, wrote a book about his eating travels across America. I will never forget the chapter devoted to Maine, in which he consumed eight lobster rolls in one afternoon.

  4. YUM! Can I have that right now? I adore Portland, and I will be keeping these suggestions handy for my July trip!
