Last week, Dave and I stopped by Dorado for a quick snack. The smaller size of many of Dorado’s dishes makes it ideal if you just want a snack or a small meal. I got my favorite, the elote (grilled corn), that I have ordered before. I am quite saddened (I almost used the word devastated) that this is the last week for elote, as corn season is on its way out. So if you have never tried it, or if you have already tried it and know its brilliance, get to Dorado this week before its gone.
Dave decided to branch out from his usual Enseñada fish taco and ordered the shrimp taco, with chipotle marinated & beer battered shrimp, jicama, pineapple salsa, and Baja crema. This taco was spicier than the Enseñada due to the chipotle batter. You can definitely taste the chipotle, but it is not overwhelming and it is balanced by the sweetness of the pineapple salsa. Overall, though, the shrimp taco does not get as high marks as the Ensenada. In Dave’s words, “the Enseñada blew me out of water. The shrimp taco does not.”
