Cooking for a Cause Ticket Giveaway and Poe’s Kitchen

If you haven’t yet made your Friday night plans, I have an event that just might interest you. This Friday evening at the Seaport Boston Hotel, 21 Boston chefs (you can view the full list here) and 11 mixologists will gather to present Cooking for a Cause, an evening of food and drink to benefit East End House. Located in Cambridge, the East End House is a community center and social service agency that has served the Greater Boston area for well over 100 years. Proceeds from Cooking for a Cause will support East End House’s goal of meeting community needs through innovative programs that support families and individuals of every age and ability.

The event promises to be a memorable evening. It won’t just be 21 Boston restaurants, but rather, each of the renowned chefs, from Tony Maws to Jody Adams, will be there in person. It is not rare for the Boston restaurant community to readily lend a hand for a good cause. One chef who you can often find at such events generously  donating time and pleasing crowds with his creative dishes, is Brian Poe of Poe’s Kitchen at the Rattlesnake.

When I stopped by the Rattlesnake last week to chat with him, he hadn’t yet decided what it would be. But based on what I have had of his before, it will be fun and creative, like the dishes you can find regularly at Rattlesnake on Brian’s weekly list of specials known as Poe Unleashed. I’ve included a few examples here to whet your appetite. Last week’s dessert special was Steel Cut Oatmeal & Irish Coffee Crème Brulee with Brooklyn Brewery Black Chocolate Stout & Vanilla Bean Ice Cream with an Oatmeal Cookie. The oatmeal was an amazing addition to the creme brulee. The chewy grains surrounded by the rich custard reminded me of rice pudding or tapioca, with an extra kick from the burnt sugar top.

For the ultimate sweet, salty and spicy bar snack, try Billy’s jalapeño and cashew cracker jacks. Also on the menu right now, prosciutto-wrapped blackened tuna with queso fresco & basil over creamed corn puree.
